Full Description

The experience of seeing an opera at Garsington is, from start to finish, designed for pleasure. Guests may arrive from 4 o’clock in the afternoon, in time to take tea on the lawn and walk through the gardens with their ancient yew hedges, Italian statues, pools, secret places and breathtaking views.

In the early evening, audience members take their seats for the performance. The long dinner interval gives plenty of time to dine in either the Great Barn or The Garden Room. As guests depart it is not unusual for the moon’s reflections in the pools to light their way, helped by the illuminated statues. An evening at Garsington Opera conjures a magical sense of occasion, and evening dress is suggested with shawls for cooler evenings.

The season will open with Vivaldi's L'incoronazione di Dario. While Vivaldi is principally known for the Four Seasons and his violin concertos, his rich operatic works are seldom heard. This will mark the first ever performance in Britain of this work.

Cosi fan tutte, Mozart’s glorious exploration of the nature of young love, returns in a revival of one of Garsington Opera's most celebrated productions.

Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress, unarguably one of the greatest operas of the twentieth century, completes.

All operas are sung in the original language with English subtitles the season.
