the challenge

Whitby Bird wanted a Christmas party with lots of entertainment. The venue had to be unusual, centrally located, with good transport links. They wanted a drinks reception with unlimited sparkling wine and cocktails and a separate area for dining that seated a minimum of 400 guests for a three-course dinner.

our thinking

Lindley Hall in Victoria has a beautiful domed ceiling with interesting architecture. As the venue is a blank canvas, it meant we could look at lots of different theming and entertainment ideas and utilise the space to maximise its benefits. With capacity to seat up to 750 guests in total, we knew there would be a way of making the room work as two separate areas and therefore meet the clients requirements.

our solution

We divided the room by using a curtain on truss that would allow for a reveal between reception and dining.

After considering the venue in more detail, we wanted to incorporate the high ceiling as part of the entertainment and came up with the idea of using an aerial act. From this it was decided the theme for the whole event would be Cirque, a modern circus with extraordinary acts and contemporary lighting and décor. We used contrasting colours to light the reception, dining and cosy chill-out areas and had a creative central bar.

The entertainment started in reception and continued throughout dinner including an incredible juggling duo, a sophisticated serpentine dancer and climaxed with an exciting silk artist, twisting and twirling from the heights of the domed ceiling. The DJ played through until the early hours of the morning and a fantastic time was had by all.
